Blue Star Lacrosse is proud to announce the hiring of Bill Sutphin, as Director of SJ All-Stars, and Dan Lamela, as Associate Director of Camps. Both of these hires come as Blue Star continues to demonstrate itself as a leader in the lacrosse development space for young athletes and their families.

Bill Sutphin - Director, Blue Star SJ

As the varsity lacrosse coach at Lenape High School for the past 16 seasons, Coach Sutphin joins Blue Star with a strong track record as a coach, mentor and role model. In his time at Lenape, he has compiled the following accomplishments:

  • Career Record: 156-103
  • Play-off Record: 16 – 12
  • 3 Division Titles: 2010, 2012, 2016
  • Sectional Title 2015
  • 3x US Lacrosse South Jersey Coach of the Year
  • 2x Burlington County Times Coach of the Year
  • 2x Courier Post Coach of the Year
  • 1x Philly Lacrosse Coach of the Year

In addition to these accomplishments as a High School coach, he also maintains a very strong presence with the town youth program, which he helped found 15+ years ago.  Coach Sutphin will be responsible for all aspects of the SJ All-Stars program. As a leader in the lacrosse development space, Blue Star SJ will provide players and families with the highest level of coaching and support, both on and off the field.  As Coach Sutphin says in his own words, "...goals can be met through teaching proper fundamentals of the game, modeling work ethic and team work, implementing and executing strategies and game plans.”

Coach Sutphin is a native of Medford, NJ and attended Shawnee High School where he played football for the respected Coach Tim Gushue. He went on to play hockey and lacrosse at Lock Haven University and upon graduating, returned home to coach football and lacrosse at Lenape high school. He is currently a full-time teacher, the Head Coach of the Freshmen Football program and the Head Coach of the Varsity Lacrosse Team.

Dan Lamela - Associate Director of Camps

Dan Lamela joins Blue Star Lacrosse in the official capacity as Associate Director of Camps. A prior year-round coach with Blue Star, Dan will officially take over all aspects of Blue Star Lacrosse camps effective immediately.

As a head coach with Blue Star last year, Dan has already proven himself as a tremendous mentor and role model for all players. As Dan says in his own words, “During my time at Blue Star I fell in love with the philosophy of the program, and the determination of my coworkers.” It is with this mindset that Dan will take on the role of running lacrosse camps this summer.

Currently, Dan is an AP Chemistry Teacher at Jackson High School and was previously the assistant Coach of Howell High School Varsity Lacrosse.

Dan is an alumnus of Brick Memorial High School, where his jersey is retired for his contributions to the program’s forming years. He played his college lacrosse at Stockton College where he was a four-year starter and earned all-conference and all-academic honors. The biggest moment of his lacrosse career came when he matched as a bone marrow donor for a recipient with leukemia through the HEADStrong Foundation’s donor match system.

If you are interested in having Blue Star run a camp in your town or would like to inquire about Blue Star Camp offerings, please reach out to Dan via Danlamela@bluestarlacrosse.com

Blue Star Lacrosse Camps!

Have A Blast!

Blue Star Lacrosse Camps are designed to be fun for everyone involved (that includes counselors too!) There are a lot of reasons to go to camp but at the end of the day we want campers to leave feeling exhausted and excited for the next day. We strive to create an environment that cultivates a player's passion for the game - we have found over 25+ years of camps that passion and attitude are the biggest future drivers of success!
