How to Use IMLCA Recruits as part of the Blue Star Recruiting Process

Follow the steps below to use IMLCA Recruits to assist you in your college search and recruiting process. By following these directions, you will allow Blue Star coaches to easily and continually assist you in your college process.

1. Create your profile on imlcarecuits.org

2. Add as much detail to your profile as you can. This will give coaches a good picture of who you are in their initial screening process. Please keep your transcripts as up to date as possible!

3. Choose a great photo
We have a lot of great Blue Star action shots posted in our Photo Galleries on the website. Choose an action shot that displays your athleticism.

4. Post your highlight videos
A profile without a highlight video is not useful to college coaches. They use the video as their initial screening tool to know if they are going to continue to evaluate you as a player of not. By the time you get through high school, you should have a few highlight videos. As you get older and improve in skill, you should add more recent videos. Usually, players will make videos after the Summer season, Fall Season and they may make a Winter/Spring video to send out before the Summer season begins.

5. Enter your schedules
These will be posted on the HS All-Stars Page

6. Make a list of schools that you are interested in
First put down all the schools that you are interested in off of the top of your head. Then, add as many schools as you need to, to get to 30 schools. I use the number 30, because it will force players to research schools beyond their current knowledge. This will force players to start to determine WHY they want to pick certain schools over other schools. Use the College Match tool to help you find additional schools. Have schools from D1, D2, D3 & MCLA.

IMLCA Recruits is an outstanding tool to use to research schools!

7. Email Coach Barbarich to review the list
We can go through and give you feedback on your list based on academics and lacrosse. We can indicate whether schools are Reaches, Targets or Probables based on academics and lacrosse. If you have a transcript & test scores, please share them with us. It makes the conversation much more focused.

8. Send an initial contact message to the schools through IMLCA
Quick intro message to show schools that you are interested. Should go something like this.

Dear Coach -------

My name is ________. I am a 20__ Middie from Westfield and I play for Blue Star Lacrosse. I am very interested in Syracuse University because of its tremendous broadcasting program and storied lacrosse history.

Please find the attached link to my recruiting profile and highlight video. This summer I will be attending the following events with Blue Star:

Big 4 Champions League - June 17-18
SweetLax Invitational - June 25-26
Naptown Challenge - July 11-13
Philly Showcase - July 16-17

I hope to see you there.

9. Keep your profile up-to-date and email coaches with any major updates. Blue Star Coaches will be communicating with college coaches continuously and will be sending out your profiles.  Continue to build your list and refine it!

Set Up Information

How To Get Started

Follow the instructions you receive when your coaches email you with your teams’ sign up link. You can then create a new, team-linked recruit profile or log in first to link an existing profile. It’s best for players to create their recruit profile using their own email address.

If you sign up through your team link and do not see your club team listed as a team association, then confirm with your coaches that your profile’s email address is authorized for that team, which is required to join it. If it is, then your coach can simply auto redeem you, which solves it.

Note that links to private sections of the recruit profile are only available once you are logged into your team-linked recruit profile.

Complete Your Profile

After your recruit profile is linked to your team, refer to your onboarding emails within your dashboard. The more complete your profile is, the higher it ranks to college coaches looking for players in IMLCA Recruits recruit finder.

A profile picture clearly showing your face is recommended so college coaches can recognize you at events. Adding a highlight video is important.

Players often create a highlight video after the summer and fall recruiting season. Just like anything else, PLEASE stay up to date so if a coach asks for updated film, you are ready and not scrambling to find new video from multiple tournaments.

Favorite Your Target Colleges

Next, find your college matches and bookmark the schools you are interested in. A target list of at least 30 colleges across multiple divisions (ie D1, D2, and D3) is recommended. Tier and rate your schools.

Your favorited schools are visible to both you and your club coaches, not college coaches.

Review List & Connect With Coaches

After favoriting your target colleges and preparing your academic information, then collaborate with your club coaches to refine your list. With your profile complete and target list ready, start messaging coaches from their college teams’ profile.

Your recruiting activity is tracked within your activity feed and is visible to your club coaches.

Your coaches will be sharing your recruit profile with college coaches so keep it up to date along with updating your target list as it evolves throughout the recruiting process. IMLCA Recruits is completely mobile so you can manage and share your profile anywhere.
